Our
Story
How We Began
Farm Coast Voices for Democracy is a grassroots advocacy organization that began as an informal support group in the wake of the November 2024 presidential election. In the days that followed, a woman from the United Congregational Church sought counsel from Rev. Donna Schaper, then serving as interim minister, asking how to move forward under a second Trump Administration.
It quickly became clear that her question reflected a need shared by many others. In response, the church opened its doors to a weekly Thursday meeting, welcoming residents from the surrounding Rhode Island and Massachusetts communities.
Over the following months, as neighbors gathered to share their fears and concerns, a shared desire for active participation began to emerge. What started as a space for support gradually grew into a structured coalition.
Farm Coast Today
Today, Farm Coast Voices for Democracy has a name, a mission statement, a banner, an email address, and a website. Our mission empowers members to stay active within their neighboring communities and at every level of government, while respecting each member's own choice of how to participate.
Since the inauguration, we have taken part in rallies, letter-writing campaigns, and postcard mailings. We have raised money for a local senior lunch program and collected goods for a local food bank. Individually and collectively, we have also aligned our efforts with Indivisible South Coast.
